How Does This Headache Journal
Work?
Learning to identify what triggers or exacerbates your
headaches is a major step in controlling headaches. Keeping
a monthly journal can clarify what should be changed to
empower yourself over your headaches.
Pay attention to all of the possible triggers when you
are investigating the cause(s) of your headaches. Headaches
tend to occur when many factors trigger a biochemical change.
If you suspect that a particular food may be part of the
problem, keep in mind that a response to food usually takes
3-12 hours between consumption and the onset of a headache.
Also, a certain food alone may not be the culprit, but
when mixed with others can cause headaches. Write in your
journal every day. Remember to include your food intake,
as it is impossible to remember everything.
Headaches are a message from your body telling you something
is wrong. Honestly look at patterns in your life that might
need to be altered. This includes disturbing aspects of
your life such as a situation you didn't handle as well
as you would've liked - i.e. losing your temper over a minor
issue.
Along with this journal, you might also ask yourself some
of these questions:
· When did I begin getting headaches regularly?
· Did anything significant happen at this time? (illness/head
trauma/emotional crisis)
Ask your family about their headache patterns or the patterns
of deceased relatives. Especially note if there is (was)
an unusual type of headache history (unique trigger or unusual
response to a particular medication). You may respond the
same as your family.
The headache journal questions were compiled to help identify
your headache precipitants. Learning your headache patterns
can help you to dispel the unpredictability of your headaches
and help you modify what is possible in your life.
Print off enough copies for each day of the month of and
begin writing in your headache journal today.
Tip: Even if you don't get a headache on a particular day,
fill out the journal as you may start to see patterns that
help keep headaches away, as well!
Good health to you!
